The national park is famous for endangered Nilgiri Tahr. The Rajamalai region of the park is open to the public and from here; the exotic Nilgiri Tahr can be viewed. The Rajamalai region falls under the tourism zone of the area. The forest spread over an area of 97 sq km is divided into; core area, buffer area and tourism area. Core area and buffer area is not open to the public. Kerala contributes about 70 percent of the national production of cardamom with the major chunk coming from the plantations of Kumily.The pepper plantations are something else that are worth seeing.
